Grote Brand Sliedrecht

SLIEDRECHT - Maandagavond 2 januari 2006 heeft in Sliedrecht een grote brand gewoed in een voormalig schoolgebouw aan de Thorbeckelaan. De brand ontstond rond 21.00 uur op de bovenverdieping van het pand dat al geruime tijd leeg staat en genomineerd is voor sloop. In eerste instantie werd er 'middelbrand' gegeven, maar al snel bleek dat er meer inzet van materieel en personeel nodig was om de brand te bestrijden. Het vuur werd bestreden door zo'n vijftig brandweerlieden uit Sliedrecht, Hardinxveld-Giessendam, Papendrecht en Dordrecht. Vooralsnog gaat de politie uit van brandstichting.
